AMY MAYER

Amy Mayer is Vice President of Construction for Related Midwest, leading the preconstruction and construction processes on numerous high-end residential and mixed-use projects and acting as the owner’s representative. During her 20 years with Related Midwest, Ms. Mayer has been integral to the success of award-winning and record-setting developments, whether transforming landmark buildings for new uses or guiding new construction.

Ms. Mayer is a licensed, LEED-certified architect and an alumna of the University of Illinois, where she earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in architecture, with a specialization in architectural history and the preservation of historic structures.

DR. MINDY THOMPSON FULLILOVE

Mindy is a board-certified psychiatrist who explores the ties between environment and mental health. She received her MS and MD degrees from Columbia University.

Dedicated to the psychology of place, Mindy’s research started in 1986 when she linked the AIDS epidemic with place of residence and she continues to focus on the health problems caused by inequality. For the past 30 years, Mindy has been investigating how broken connections between different sections of cities harm public health and explores ways to reconnect them. Previously, Mindy taught at Columbia University and was a lecturer at Parsons.

She has published numerous articles and six books including "Urban Alchemy: Restoring Joy in America's Sorted-Out Cities," "Root Shock: How Tearing Up City Neighborhoods Hurts America and What We Can Do About It," and "House of Joshua: Meditations on Family and Place." She has received many awards, including inclusion in many “Best Doctors” and two honorary doctorates (Chatham College, 1999, and Bank Street College of Education, 2002).

MONICA CHADHA, AIA

Monica Chadha is a LEED-certified, licensed architect with more than 20 years of experience in the practice of architecture. As the Founder and Principal of Civic Projects, she contributes a background that is as equally steeped in social engagement as it is in quality design. Prior to founding Civic Projects, Monica led project teams at two of Chicago’s most notable architecture firms: Studio Gang and Ross Barney Architects. During that time, she was integral to the design of such award-winning civic-scale buildings, as the Champaign Public Library and the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Civil Engineering Building.

Monica brings this wide range of experience, combined with community engagement techniques developed as Founding Director of Impact Detroit, to all of Civic Projects’ work. The firm’s approach to design is hybrid and participatory—building teams and working collaboratively with community groups and organizations to develop projects that revitalize and invigorate the communities they serve. Civic Projects is currently engaged in a wide range of work: from working with Ralph Appelbaum and Associates on the Museum Design for the Obama Presidential Center, to leading the Strategic Programming and Planning for the Chicago Torture Justice Center.

JUDITH FRYDLAND

Judy Frydland serves as the Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Buildings.

The Department of Buildings is a 285‐person department with an annual budget of $37 million. The DOB enhances safety and quality of life for residents and visitors of the City of Chicago through permitting, inspections, trade licensing, and enforcement of the Chicago Building Code.

Since Commissioner Frydland’s appointment in 2015, the Department has implemented several reforms that have streamlined the permit process for all building projects, from single-family home renovations to large-scale developments, making it quicker and more efficient to obtain a permit than ever before. Under her leadership, the Department is modernizing City code to align with national and international standards. In fall 2017, Chicago became one of the first major cities to align with the National Electrical Code.

Prior to joining the Department of Buildings, Ms. Frydland spent 25 years in the Chicago Law Department working with various city departments, community groups and other stakeholders on the enforcement of building code, municipal health and business license regulations.

Ms. Frydland graduated from I.I.T. Chicago Kent College of Law, was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1990 and is a current member of the Chicago Bar Association.
